Global Church Locator

This service returns a list of church facilities within a specified radius of any specified point on earth. The point on earth is provided in terms of latitude and longitude, with the radius provided in miles. A maximum of 400 records will be returned. See http://www.churchzip.com .

The facilities provided by this service are churches of Christ, worldwide. This group has no official headquarters and each such church operates independently, providing their own records to the web site operator. Approximately 14,000 records are in the directory as of May, 2002.

An array of arrays is returned by this service. The first index of the array is intended to index the many records matching your query. This array is sorted in order of distance from the centerpoint provided. Each array within the first array is hashed by the attribute contained in the array. The valid attributes are seen in the WSDL file.

Other web services include:

Populated Places web service. This RPC-style SOAP service requires a whole or partial place name string and a country code. It returns a list of matching place-
names where the provided string is a prefix to the matched places within the country identified by the country code. Each record of the returned array-of-arrays provides latitude and longitude, along with additional place identification information.

For US locations, USPS 5-digit zipcodes are resolved just like any other location. An optional USPS 2-digit state code may also be used to restrict the query response.

We think we have all the countries of the world, but all place-names are standard US-English names (assigned by the United States committe for world place names).
